Daily Bites – 12/11/13

3 days in a row, I’m on a roll!

Breakfast part 1: Weight Watchers vanilla smoothie with unsweetened vanilla almond milk, pumpkin pie spice, and a splash of pumpkin spice creamer (pretty much the only reason I buy creamer, I’m not much of a coffee drinker).

Breakfast part 2:  Some unpictured pumpkin spice tea (guess I was in a pumpkin mood today!) and a Nutrisystem cinnamon streusel muffin.  These are on the small side, I’ve just zoomed in for a pic.

Lunch:  I joined Mr. Spice, his business partner and their coworkers for their holiday lunch at Rumi’s Kitchen, a Persian restaurant in Sandy Springs.  We’ve been here before and I loved the food, so I was looking forward to today.  We ordered a ton of appetizers for the table: the yogurt trio (cucumber, sun dried shallot, spinach), hummus, shirazi salad, grilled shrimp with creamy feta sauce, and lots of Persian bread to accompany it all.  I can seriously make a meal out of the yogurt, hummus, salad, and bread.  And this was just a shot of my “polite” first plate, we pretty much went to town on everything!

I pretty much always get some kind of kebab when we eat Persian food — I usually get beef and get the soltani which gives you 2 types, koobideh (ground meat kebab) and barg (almost like a fillet-style kebab).  This time I decided to try the chicken kebab and subbed some lima bean and dill basmati rice instead of the usual saffron basmati.  The chicken was tender and citrusy, which went well with the ground sumac I sprinkled over everything!  After all the appetizers we ate, this was way too much food, so I now have leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

Suffice it to say that I didn’t need or want an afternoon snack after this exotic lunch feast!

Pre-dinner snack: After work, I had to stop at the store for a couple things and got home more than ready for something to eat.  While I waited for our oven to heat up and for Mr. Spice to get home, I thought I’d try out one of the new Nutrisystem multigrain soft pretzels that came in last week’s shipment.  I get a mix of the shelf-stable and frozen, which I think is the way to go.  Most of the frozen snacks are desserts, so I was glad when they came out with a more “neutral” option.  I decided to make a quick cheese and salsa dip to go along with the pretzel.  I need to remember this combo next time I want snacky junk food, it totally hit the spot!

Dinner:  Mr. Spice requested frozen pizza for dinner, so I picked up what he wanted and then got a Freschetta Simply Inspired Harvest Supreme thin crust pizza for myself.  I ate half, but honestly this thing is SO thin so it’s really tempting to eat the whole damn thing.  And for some reason I don’t see these on the website, so I wonder if they’ve stopped making these. Oh well.

That’s that for now.  I need to work on getting in more fruits and veggies, it’s much easier in the spring and summer!

Keep an eye out for a review and giveaway in the next few days!
