I have always been envious of cities that have food trucks. The whole concept is just fun to me. But then I’m a freak who likes to take pictures of her food and write about it.
The Atlanta Street Food Coalition is trying to remedy this void in our city, thankfully. I keep reading tantalizing tid-bits here and there about food trucks making appearances throughout town but I seem to find out about them too late.
But today I was in luck! I found out about the Super Secret Underground Food Truck Extravaganza being hosted by Souper Jenny this evening. Score! And it was near my office. Double score!
Mr. Spice and I knew we had found the place when we saw all the trucks parked in the parking lot and people milling around with food in their hands. We walked around a bit to see which vendors were there and tried to decide what to hit up first. Of all the days to be caught without my camera — at least I had my phone.
I had a bit of a dilemma on my hands — I just finished the first 2 weeks of the South Beach Diet and was feeling good about how I had been eating. I didn’t want to ruin my hard work but how can you go to a food truck extravaganza and not partake of the goodies? It was my foodie duty to sample the food. So I decided to enjoy myself but not get carried away.
We based our first stop based on the length of the line outside the truck. Yumbii is known for its Mexican-Asian-Southern fusion food and after I took a look at the menu and the line of people waiting I joined them.
I got a Korean beef taco and Mr. Spice got a spicy pulled pork taco. The beef was tender and I could taste the delicate Asian flavorings, all topped off with some spicy sauce. I took a tiny bite out of Mr. Spice’s taco (not a big pork fan) and it was zingy!
Next up was Tex’s Tacos for some lime fries. Tex’s Tacos serves up “”Nueva Texicana” style food – when I saw the fries on the menu, I knew I had to try them.
Holy cow. Two weeks without carbs and then I had these. I was in heaven. The fries were hot and crisp and I loved the lime salt sprinkled on top — it tasted like those lime-flavored Tostitos chips. We added a few squirts of diablo barbecue sauce and chowed down. So worth breaking the diet.
After that, I waffled between cupcakes, pops, and ice cream.
Ice cream won.
I tried the salted butter caramel ice cream. I really liked this combination — the sweetness of the caramel cut with a hint of saltiness. I had some remnants of self-control and managed to stop myself before eating too much.
We walked around a bit more after we ate and I took pics of some of the trucks. I loved that we were in this little bit of foodie heaven tucked away from a busy street. Hopefully there are more of these events. Hint, hint.
In the meantime, I think I will start stalking seeking out food trucks. If you see a short, food-loving brown girl chasing after a food truck around Atlanta, it’s me.

How fun!! I’ve always been jealous of other cities when I watch food shows and see all those yummy truck treats – so glad to know they’re here too!

That’s a sensible answer to a challenging question
Nenhum cético nego oque lhe foge da copreensão. Céticos apenas se negam a aceitar explicações inventadas para o que é observado, tendo a humildade de dizer “não sei” a inventar uma explicação na hora
Great common sense here. Wish I’d thought of that.
