I’m making this quick because I had a LONG day today. I had to actually come into the office today. On a Sunday. And I worked yesterday too. But I’m so glad I did or else I would have been really behind on Monday, with the October 15th deadline looming.
Anyway, I was very tired and cranky when I got home. I was originally going to make some Bengali food but fate intervened and the chicken thighs I’d put in the fridge to thaw were still rock-frozen, so that idea was nixed.
Luckily yesterday I had stopped into Trader Joe’s on the way home from work and stocked up on some goodies. I’ve been working here for almost 2 months and yesterday was the first time I’d set foot in this particular Trader Joe’s. I’ve been to other ones, but this one is so close to work. Anyway, I stocked up on a few favorites, such as their marinated carne asada steak. This stuff rocks.
Mr. Spice was a good sport and handled grilling the steak on our grill pan (one day we will get a real grill) and made some rice. I quickly made a salad and soon we were chomping away.
And of course there were leftovers so I had to pack a lunch for tomorrow!
For some reason, the rice turned out kinda mehh. I think I have spoiled us by cooking Basmati rice most of the time, so when I buy regular grocery store white rice, it just isn’t the same. And the regular rice is always so sticky and clumpy. I thought this was a great chance to try out some Japanese rice molds I bought a long time ago. How cute is my rice?
