Daily Bites – 1/13/14

someecards.com - My New Year's resolution is to eat healthy and lose weight but first I need to eat all the unhealthy food in the house so it's not there to tempt me.

Yep, that’s basically what I’ve been doing.  Another Monday, another start, right?

On the way to work — a protein shake.

I didn’t sleep well last night, so caffeine was in order as soon as I got in to work.  Some butter toffee coffee with chocolate creamer and splenda. I just like saying butter toffee coffee.

Remember my tried and true breakfast sandwiches of breakfasts past?  They’re back!  Whole wheat bagel thin with 2% pepperjack, a Morningstar spicy breakfast sausage patty, and hot sauce.  I was trying to decide between whole wheat English muffins, mini whole wheat bagels, and these bagel thins.  The nutritional stats were pretty much the same.  The ingredient list for the English muffins was a bit long compared to the others.  I really wanted the mini bagels, but in the end, the bagel thins were on sale so they won.  Which would you have chosen?

I was sorely tempted to go out for lunch, not for any good reason, just because.  Instead I forced myself to eat what I had at the office.  I had a can of Progresso Rich & Hearty Slow Cooked Vegetable Beef soup, with some baby spinach wilted into it, plus some cheese toast made with 2% pepperjack and light dill rye bread (2 pieces).  I think having the cheese toast was a good call — it made lunch more substantial and satisfying.

I hit my usual 3 pm slump and decided to make some trail mix — 1 tbsp each of dried blueberries and dark chocolate chunks and a 100-calorie pack of natural roasted almonds.

Right before I left work I had part of this clementine but only ate a couple pieces since it had dried out and wasn’t good anymore.

Instead, I made a cup of diet hot chocolate and added some ground cinnamon and a splash of chocolate creamer.

Traffic was HORRIBLE due to all the rain.  Mr. Spice and I have been commuting together lately and it took me almost an hour to get to his office from mine.  I got hungry again so broke out a Luna bar to tide me over to dinner since I knew it’d be a while before we got home.

For dinner tonight I was going to use up some ground turkey we had and make a variation of the Korean ground beef recipes I’ve seen posted.  Instead, Mr. Spice said he was craving parathas (Indian flaky layered bread) and spicy mango pickle for dinner.  Lucky for him we had a packet of frozen parathas! I decided to cook the ground turkey with some garlic, ginger, hot curry paste, and broccoli slaw to go along with it.  This really hit the spot tonight !

I know we just ate dinner, but I really want something sweet now, so may have a piece of dark chocolate and call it a night.

Don’t forget to enter my Sweet Secrets Chocolate Pretzel Pizza giveaway!  Maybe I’ll just drool over the pics instead of eating chocolate.

Good night!
